About
Charlotte Avigail Jutrem is a Norwegian Israeli glass artist. She grew up in an environment influenced by Scandinavian design. She was introduced to glass design and glass blowing through the art of her grandfather, Arne Jon Jutrem, a painter and glass designer at Hadeland Glassverk, Norway. After she completed a BFA in Interior Design in Israel, her fascination for glassblowing and the glass material itself led her to study Ceramic and Glass Design at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, Israel.
The artist was early influenced by the Scandinavian Art and Craft movement and wanted to design and blow functional glass objects, combined with the influence of the Nordic nature, light and design. During her exchange program at Rhode Island School of Design in Rhode Island, USA, she discovered and acquired skills in coldworking. She is experimenting combining blown and coldworked glass in functional objects.
By having a multicultural identity, the theme of belonging and the contrast of her two different cultures are present in all her works.
